Wine Tasting at Brighton's Curry Leaf Cafe

I was invited to a wine tasting evening at Curry Leaf Cafe in Brighton last month and really enjoyed myself. The restaurant has been around for a while now and aims to bring delicious South Indian street food to Brighton.

Now, I'm an Indian food snob. I'm sorry, I just can't help it. I grew up in an area of the country with a large population of Indian immigrants, for which I'm truly thankful as I got to appreciate different cultures, and of course try delicious food. But even though I'm an Indian food snob, I was impressed by this place. The chef was formerly of Chilli Pickle (a place that I absolutely adore!) and who paired up with his flatmate to start up their own enterprise.

OK, so let's combine me being an Indian food snob, and not drinking lots of wine cause it makes me crazy! You'd wonder why on earth I'd be there. Well, I had to give it a go, and I wasn't let down. The snacks provided with the wine were plentiful and delicious, and the wine, which is from a vineyard in India, was really good! We also tried a Prosecco, and even a wine from Colchester in Essex!

I now need to go and try the food at Curry Leaf properly for myself – and of course eat some more of the delicious Batate Ambade there too! I think I'd most like to try the following...

From the lunch menu:

Masala Dosa
Vegetarian Thali
Melon Chaat
Karivepaku Kodi
And of course some coconut and lime sorbet!

From the dinner menu:

Bhuna Makai Shorba
Mangalorean Fish Cutlet
Kaikari Sambar
Chilli-glazed pineapple
Three-piece sweet

You can also pop in there on a Sunday for brunch, which is for sure something that I really fancy doing! Full Indian? Yes please¬

Thanks to Euan and Kanthi for inviting me – all the best in your awesome venture, and see you again soon!

  1. Sounds delicious! I don't tend to pair wine with curry, but perhaps I'm missing a trick? xxx
