I’ve always been a bit wary of raw vegan desserts after a bad experience at a birthday meal with friends (not my birthday, I’m all about the cake!) where the cake just turned out to be flavoured nice cream on top of a nut and date base… not as nice as it had been made out to me! HOWEVER… I did know that there were some blooming awesome raw vegan cakes on the market; I’d just not been lucky to experience them yet! So I spent so long gawping at all these gorgeous looking raw vegan cakes and cheesecakes, until the lovely Nicola from The Kleen Kitchen got in touch with me, asking if I’d like to try a selection of her vegan and gluten free raw vegan cakes. Well of course I had to say yes! This was finally my opportunity to give this kind of cake a try!

Nicola runs The Kleen Kitchen; a new, plant based business based in East Sussex. Nicola is passionate about creating nutritious, homemade food, which is good for the body, mind and soul.
All of the products Nicola creates are raw and plant based, and contain no dairy, gluten, or refined sugar – sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong. They are all absolutely delicious. Anyway, since the ingredients are all heated below 42 degrees, this allows the food to retain as many nutrients and live enzymes as possible. There are no frozen bananas involved in these slices, but if you have a nut allergy you should be aware that all of the slices from The Kleen Kitchen contain nuts.
Nicola delivered me a delicious selection of treats to try, and this is what was what the selection was: raspberry and lemon cake, mango and white chocolate cake, chocolate orange cake, and a mint matcha chocolate slice.
So what did I think about the selection? Read on to find out…
Mint Matcha Chocolate Raw Brownie Slice
Oh.My.Gosh. If you’re like me, and LOVE mint chocolate, this raw, gluten free mint chocolate slice is a must try! The base is a raw chocolate brownie, topped with layers of mint, vanilla and chocolate raw cheesecake, and the slice is finished with a drizzle of chocolate and sprinkle of crumble!
Mango and White Chocolate Raw Cheesecake
This slice is a fruity, creamy delight, topped with an energy ball and chia seeds. The coconut milk in this slice brings a subtle flavour, and really compliments the fruitiness of the mango.
Raspberry and Lemon Raw Cake Slices
If you’re into fruity, creamy tasting cheesecakes, then this will be up your street! I found this raspberry and lemon cake to be fruity and creamy, and the base was a lot nuttier tasting than the chocolate based cakes, which is a good thing when paired with the other flavours. It’s really fresh, and I loved how there were chunks of raspberry in the cake. Oh, and look how pretty the slice is, topped with flowers!
Chocolate Orange Raw Vegan Cake
Another flora topped slice: this time dried marigold petals. This chocolate orange slice is rich, creamy and gives the perfect chocolate hit for a chocaholic like me! I believe the base of this cake is the same as the base of the matcha mint chocolate slice; it’s so good! Chocolate orange is such a classic combo, and this cake really shows it off!
So, you ask, what was my favourite? Well I have to admit that I have a slight obsession with the mint chocolate matcha slice! I have dreams about it and often find myself thinking about it!
All slices are super filling, creamy tasting, and really delicious! I’m already trying to hold myself back from ordering some more mint chocolate matcha slices, it has to be said!
