Some of you know already that I’m a keen scrapbooker. I love playing with paper and making photos and stories come to life, looking awesome with pretty paper and embellishments. However, it can be difficult to sort out printing photos from social media, such as Instagram, unless you splash out on a photo printer yourself. Here’s where Printiki comes in – it’s a service which allows you to print photos off from a variety of sources, and I’m going to tell you how I used their service to help me scrapbook some of my favourite photos.
Scrapbooking and Instagram – Friends or Foes?
I’ve been scrapbooking for around a decade now, and although I’ve not been super vocal about how and when I do it, I still do, and it still happens. However, the way I work on my scrapbooking has slightly changed. When I was more junior in my role, I had more time to sit and plan the photos I wanted to print, and print them out myself. I took more photos for scrapbooking in general, whereas the photos I take now are for an assortment of puposes – whether they are for sending to friends/family, posting on here, or posting on social media. But how can you use your Instagram photos for scrapbooking? And get them printed quickly and easily? Step in, Printiki.
What is Printiki?
Printiki is a service allowing you to print photos, photo books and other products, using images from social media, your mobile phone, and computer. It’s quick and easy to use, and standard delivery is very quick, despite the company being based in The Netherlands (usually it taks 3-5 days for delivery from mainland Europe to the UK).
I chose to print some of my favourite photos in the ‘Square’ format, as I thought they would be perfect for scrapbook layouts, as well as showing off my Instagram photos in particular.
The Scrapbook process
As you can see from the photos below, once my photos arrived I just had to scrap these photos of my West Highland Terrier, Mackey, playing in the park! He’s quite the character, and these photos of him always make me laugh!
It’s a really simple process that I go through to figure out the paper I’m going to use, as I’m a fan of using multiple patterns, colours and shades. I chose a really interesting green coloured Bazzill, and raided my scraps bag for the patterned paper I used – Basic Grey, I believe!
You won’t see from these pictures, but I also gutted the main, light grey piece of Bazzill – I often gut to save paper! In scrapbooking terms, gutting cardstock/paper means removing large parts of it so you can use parts of the same piece – either then, or in the future.
I always lay out my layout (!) in advance of sticking it all down – well, the paper pieces at least!
Once I’d placed the pieces, I mounted the main image of Mackey’s smiley face on some (fake, no animal products involved) vellum paper. And then began to stick it all down. I used my Zig 2 way glue pen* – I love this glue as it’s blue when you first use it, so you can see exactly where you’re applying it.
It was then time to add embellishments – I chose some Basic Grey stickers, some more vellum, and some October Afternoon sticky letters.

This is so sweet and Mackey is definitely worth scrapbooking, I’m unsure if that’s the right term. None the less, he’s as cute as ever. I’d like to get into scrapbooking, I used to be a big fan of photo albums with little notes, this seems like the next logical step! Or even just to pop them up on a string of lights would be a nice addition to a bare wall. Lovely post Nat, give Mackey a scratch for me.
