Fatto a Mano Vegan Pizza Review

fatto a mano vegan pizza review

Great news, vegan, dairy free and gluten free pizza lovers! Fatto a Mano has just launched their vegan and gluten free ranges at their London Road Brighton and Church Road Hove locations. They kindly invited my partner and I to try their revamped menu, and from what we’d already heard about this pizzeria, we had to give them a try.

So what did I think about their vegan options? Read on to find out more…

Vegan Pizza at Fatto a Mano

Fatto a Mano has grown to become a Brighton institution over the short time it has been around. It started off with just one restaurant on London Road, and the second restaurant on Church Road in Hove opened in August 2016. The Fatto a Mano philosophy is fresh, great tasting food, at affordable prices, making them accessible for all. Previously, vegans could only enjoy a cheeseless pizza, so I was so happy to hear that they’d be introducing a vegan friendly cheese to their menu.

Starter

We started off with the Campania Fries, which sadly aren’t pictured as we were pretty hungry! They were delicious; crispy and well-seasoned and although some might find fries a strange starter, we didn’t!!

The Vegano Vegan Pizza

All of Fatto a Mano’s pizzas are cooked in their wood fired oven at over 450 degrees, making sure that the pizza is soft and pillowy as well as having crispness and good leoparding.

I opted for the Vegano pizza, which is topped with tomato sauce, vegan cheese, fried courgette, caramelised red onion, and vegan pesto. It was really enjoyable – I keep thinking about that fried courgette even now!

Fatto a Mano use a rice based vegan cheese, similar to that used by Zizzi. It really is the best kind of vegan cheese for pizza, since it melts really well and tastes so good! I’m really happy that they also decided to use a small, Italian supplier for this cheese, it’s always great to see smaller companies supporting each other.

The Salad

We also ordered a delicious quinoa, artichoke and chickpea salad (both vegan and gluten free) to accompany our pizzas – gosh, we were really spoilt, since the salad was a really decent portion. Sometimes opting for the salad as a main course would make you feel as though you were missing out, but with this salad, you wouldn’t.

The salad not only comprised of quinoa, artichoke and chickpea – there was also rocket, red onion, with a lemon and mint dressing. It was really tasty and went really well as a sharing side with our pizzas!

The Drinks

Drinks wise, we tried a few of the signature cocktails – we both enjoyed Aperol Spritz’s, then I followed with a Hugo (Elderflower liquer, prosecco, mint, lime and soda), and my partner enjoyed a classic Negroni. Fatto a Mano also have an extensive alcoholic and non alcoholic beverage list, which now also includes a gluten free lager.

Dessert

To finish the meal I opted for the lemon sorbet, which was a great end to my meal, and of course it was vegan. What I’d love to see available for vegans is a dessert similar to the Scugnizzielli Nutella (fried dough strips with sugar and nutella) – I have to say I was just a little envious of those who enjoyed it!

All in all, our night at Fatto a Mano was an absolute delight. The food was delicious, and the staff were so welcoming. Since we live close to the London Road branch, I’m sure we’ll be popping down there more often, now that they have a lot more vegan options!
