This year I vowed to myself to get more crafty. I’ve always been into crafting since I remember, mainly papercrafts, but I’ve also dabbled in other media, including making a dress. Let me tell you a little about 2 new books I’ve recently been reading, and how they will help you to make things from the fabric stash you already have! Plus, I’ll let you know what’s on my to-craft list from them …
Great New Fat Quarter Craft Book Releases
There’s two new craft books on the market, and they’re all to do with making the most of your fabric stash! I’m all for stash-busting; there’s way too much crafting stuff in our study/craft room right now, and I’ve been giving some bits I don’t use to charity, but there’s materials that I can’t bear to say goodbye to, which is where these books come in!
If you have a lot of fabric at home, or have remnants left over, these books are ideal for you. There are lots of quick makes and also lots of really functional items which would make good gifts for someone else, or indeed yourself! These two books are suitable for beginner to intermediate sewers, like myself.
Fat Quarter: Home
First up is Fat Quarter Home. This book is packed full of easy-to-follow instructions for each and every project, beautiful photography, handy tools and techniques section, and ready to photocopy patterns for each make.
On my to make list from this book are the following items:
- Pot holder
- Cafetiere cover
- Drinks coaster
- Tea cosy
(Can you see the pattern here?! Let’s just say these are all pretty darned suitable to me and my loves!)
Fat Quarter: Quick Makes
Next up is Fat Quarter: Quick Makes; another great book for smashing through your sewing stash! Again, this book is for beginner to intermediate crafters, and features 25 quick and easy projects to make. All of the projects have step-by-step, easy to follow instructions, and feature gorgeous photos to help you along the way.
I absolutely love this book as it’s perfect for using up scraps and remnants from your existing stash, and a lot of the makes will make perfect gifts – whether last minute, or made ahead of time.
On my to make list from this book are the following:
- Fabric Flowers
- Camera Strap Cover
- Applique Patches
Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes are by Amanda Russell and Juliet Bawden, published by GMC and are £12.99 each.
