Pollokshields is home to the most ethnically diverse street in the whole of Glasgow, so there was no arguing that we’d be finding some of the best Panjabi food that we’ve tasted in quite a while! And we found it at Ranjit’s Kitchen, on Pollokshaws Road. Ranjit’s Kitchen serves vegetarian cuisine – you won’t be finding any meat at this place! So how does it fare for vegan food? We decided to give it a try…
About Ranjt’s Kitchen
Ranjit’s Kitchen is a family-run establishment – Ranjit herself works in the kitchen, and some of her children work the front of house. Despite it being a random, drizzly afternoon, the restaurant was busier than we’d expected; full with happy people enjoying their food.
What We Ordered at Ranjit’s Kitchen
We ordered samosas, pakora, and and aloo tikki special – me being vegan, I avoided the yogurt raita. It’s also worth asking the staff for what is currently vegan that day – all of the food is cooked fresh on that day, by Ranjit, but due to the use of ghee and presence of paneer in some of the dishes, it’s not always vegan. However, there are always lots of delicious snacks and small plates to enjoy, so make sure to ask the staff what’s on offer if you’re stuck – they are really kind and helpful!
Thoughts on Ranjit’s Kitchen Vegan Options
The prices at Ranjit’s Kitchen are unbeatable. Dishes are cheap, filling and delicious, and there’s no wonder why we saw repeat visitors coming in for their lunchtime take away. Staff are refreshingly kind and helpful, and the service combined with the food makes you keep wanting to go back for more. I for one can’t wait to go back to Glasgow and visit Ranjit’s Kitchen again!
